About Olmiite

Olmiite is a relatively rare mineral that was officially recognised as a distinct mineral species by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 2006. Before its recognition, specimens from the Kalahari Manganese Field in South Africa were sometimes identified as the closely related mineral Poldervaartite.

Olmiite is named in honour of Italian mineralogist Filippo Olmi and is particularly sought after by mineral collectors for its unusual crystal formations.

Its crystals can form attractive rounded, ball-like and bow-tie-shaped aggregates, with colours ranging from pale pink and peach through salmon-orange to beige and brownish tones.
